Summer Reading

Rochester Catholic Schools believes that reading is an important aspect of a child’s education and one that should take place year round. As research shows, the more students read, the more they will acquire a love of reading. This “love of reading” is what we want to instill in our students from an early age. This summer, all students entering grades 6-12 will participate in a summer reading challenge.

Grade 6

This summer, please record the titles of any books you read on the challenge log. Before the first day of school, please read the short novel, based on a true story, On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer. Please select ONE of the three prompts and write a response explaining your thoughts on loose leaf or electronically.

Reading Power: Making Connections

  • Text to Faith - explain in approximately 50 words how an event from this novel connects to our Catholic faith.
  • Text to Text - explain in approximately 50 words how an event from this novel connects to another novel you have read.
  • Text to Self - explain in approximately 50 words how an event from this novel connects to your own life.

Throughout the summer, record the titles, authors, and page numbers of any books you read on the challenge log. Please bring your “Making Connections” responses and your challenge log with you on the first day of school.
