At Lourdes High School our counseling and guidance department is an integral part of the overall educational experience. Our counseling staff is passionately committed to providing our students with comprehensive programs which systematically address three areas of need: academic, career, and personal/social development.
It is our mission to provide guidance to our students to assist them in promoting the discovery of their God-given unique gifts and talents.
Our professional staff at Lourdes High School includes three licensed counselors who serve students in grades 9-12.
Students are required to earn a minimum of 24 credits in grades 9-12. Credit requirements include: 4 years of English, 4 years of theology, 3.5 years of social studies, 3 years of mathematics, 3 years of science, 2 years of physical education and health, and 4.5 elective credits.
Lourdes High School uses a modular scheduling program. Classes meet within a ten day cycle. Each day of a cycle contains 18 periods, or "mods," most of which are scheduled for classroom instruction. Mods where no instruction is scheduled may be spent in office hours, quiet study, the library, or the commons (school cafeteria).
Modular scheduling provides students with the necessary time during the school day for individual student-teacher contact outside of class time allowing for students to receive individual help with course work. A major benefit of modular scheduling is the development of strong and effective personal time management skills that contribute to the success of students at the college or university level.
Convocation is a special and unique opportunity for the students and staff at Lourdes High School. Daily, the entire student body assembles as a unified community to first and foremost share their faith together in prayer. In addition to prayer, and led by students, our Lourdes community recites the Pledge of Allegiance and receives school specific announcements. This daily routine is then followed by engaging and exciting student-focused activities and presentations geared at building community, strengthening school climate, and developing social responsibility and global awareness.
