Season Information
2017-2018 LOURDES BOYS HOCKEY PLAYER EXPECTATIONS
Uniform Information
- Each player will get gloves, home/away jerseys, socks, and breezer covers. This will all be returned at the end of the season banquet or up to 1 week after.
- You will keep your helmet since this is something you’ve paid for. We will discuss what will be done in the future.
- Each outfit, home and away, should be brought to every game. Jerseys should be hung up or folded neatly in your bag. They should be clean for every game.
Attendance
- As a high school team, we will practice everyday on non-game days throughout the season.
- A schedule will be followed as closely as possible but you need to be flexible as the weather can make changes necessary or shifts in rink time.
- Attendance at practice and games is mandatory. If you are unable to attend a practice or game, you email or phone the coach or leave a message in the athletic office.
- Playing time is earned regardless of grade/status. Every practice is a tryout.
Practices
- Be dressed and ready for the beginning of practice.
- Help with equipment and locker room maintenance before and after practice.
- Listen when the coaches are talking.
- Hustle everywhere you go and encourage your teammates to do the same.
- The players at the end of every practice will pick up pucks. Goalies are responsible for the nets. Rotate if necessary.
- Locker room cleanup a must – delegate – last person picks up.
Dress for games and practices
- No player will be allowed to practice without the proper gear.
- For games, uniforms should be clean and properly worn at all times.
- Jerseys on hangers, or folded neatly in your bag.
- On days of home games, players need to wear to school a shirt and tie, nice pants (no jeans), and nice shoes.
- On days of away games, players need to wear to school their ¼ zip pullovers. Can change into sweats gear on the bus.
Game Conduct
- If you disagree with a referee’s call, keep your opinion to yourself. Do not argue with the referee.
- Respect the competition at all times!
- Hustle! Skate hard on and off the ice.
- Keep track of your gear 0n the bench and bags in the locker room.
- Bags will be tucked under the bench in the locker room once you get all your stuff on.
- Stay alert and involved in the game. Being on the bench is game time not break time. Keep your focus on the ice and the game that we are playing.
- Be ready to play at all times, stay loose, and stretch if you need to.
- No verbal abuse of referees, opponents, or fans will be tolerated.
- Visiting with friends and family can be done after the game, stay focused on the bench.
- After home games, we need to take care of the locker rooms and pick up all trash.
- There will be a brief post-game meeting at the end of every game. Your presence is required. Never leave the locker room after a game until dismissed by the coach.
Communication
- Email is the best way to reach the coaches.
- If there is an emergency do not hesitate to call any coach.
- If there is an issue with a player, conduct, or coaching the player must initiate the conversation.
- Social media will not be used to cause disruption/separation of the team. You are all ambassadors of the program. If there is an issue bring it to the coaching staff/captains.
- There will be a 24 hour rule in place for post game discussions with parents. Respect it and we will do the same.
Hazing/Bullying
- ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
- Any reports of hazing or bullying will be brought to the attention of Mr. Menard.
- If an investigation from the school proves hazing/bullying to have been done, the player responsible will be removed from the team with no possibility of rejoining at a later date.
Lettering Requirement
- Complete the season
- No suspensions for any reason
- No unexcused absences
- Be a positive team member and contribute to the team’s success
- Follow team rules and expectations
Captain Selection
- Next season’s captains will be selected at the end of each season at the banquet by the current captains and coaches.
- Eligible individuals must show leadership skills on and off the ice, academic prowess, and a commitment to the team.
Parent Expectations
- Team focus vs 1-1 attention
- Enjoy watching the game and not coaching from the stands.
- Keep a positive attitude with other parents and fans. Ambassadors of Lourdes Athletics.
- Volunteer when available, we will need all the help we can get this year!
