A Message From the Principal

This Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent. This beautiful time of waiting is needed at this busy time of year. Just as the prophets foretold in the Old Testament, and Mary and Joseph waited for the birth of their son, Jesus - the world awaits His coming again at the end of time. There is something so beautiful in waiting - the anticipation, the passage of time, the build-up of what is to come - and yet, we struggle to stay present in the moment! Perhaps you use an Advent calendar, a devotional, a faith/family tradition like an Advent wreath to help prepare for the coming of the Christ Child on Christmas. Make Advent a time of prayerful waiting. Use it as a time to step aside from the commercialism and consumerism so present in our world today. Recognize the many gifts you have in your life, and reach out to someone less fortunate. Celebrate the blessings you have been given, both big and small, and acknowledge our Creator - who is King over all the earth.

Our virtue for the month of December is Generosity - Giving without counting the cost. Our saints for the month are St. Nicholas, St. Mary Magdalene and St. Maximilian Kolbe. As we study these saints, along with other saints whose feasts we celebrate in December, (Immaculate Conception (December 8th), Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12th), John of the Cross (December 14th), Christmas (December 25th), John the Evangelist (December 27th), and Holy Innocents (December 28th) may we continue to grow in faith and prepare our hearts for the coming of the Christ Child.

Respectfully,
Barb Plenge

Our Student Council will lead our service learning project during Advent. As we learn about the work of the Missionary Childhood Association and the countries that are served (Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Oceania and the Americas), we learn how our donations and prayer not only helps kids in other places in our world, but helps us grow closer to God. Students may bring monetary donations at anytime and collections will be taken up at the school masses on December 4th, 11th and 18th. Our donations will be sent to the Diocese of Winona-Rochester and combined with gifts from our diocese to the Missionary Childhood Association.
