Every year, the seventh graders compete in the Lion's Club Peace Poster Contest. This year's theme is "kindness matters." The following student posters have been chosen to represent St. Francis of Assisi School this year: Annie Borgmeier, Avery Davis, Nonie Foust, Chiara Lovely, Elizabeth Niesen, and Erin Witter. Congratulations to our winners! Peace posters are on display in the school.

SCHOOL NEWS

The collection has begun to assist Church of the Resurrection with filling baskets for 100 families this Christmas Season. Each classroom has been given a specific item to donate. Donations can be brought to school between now and November 30th. Boxes will be packed at Resurrection on December 13th and 14th. Click here for the list of items.

If you noticed our male employees sporting more facial hair than normal - rest assured it is for a cause! They are participating in No Shave November. The goal is to grow awareness of male health issues and treatment that involve hair loss. By letting your beard/hair grow individuals are encouraged to donate the money they would typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battle. Many of us know folks who are going through treatment and have suffered the loss of their hair. This is one way we can support them!

The HSA is sponsoring a Christmas gift that fits budgets of all sizes. Contribute whatever amount you would like to a cash gift to be distributed to all the school employees at Christmastime. Your name will be included on the card. This collection is an option offered for families as a way to recognize all the adults who work hard to provide a great school for our kids! Checks should be made out to “St. Francis HSA”. Please send your donation to the school office in an envelope marked “Staff Christmas Gift” and include the names you would like acknowledged on the card. All donations must be in the office by Monday, December 10th.

Science Fair sign-ups for students in grades K-6 are coming home today. They are due back to the school office no later than December 7th. Science Fair information for students in grades 7-8 will be shared by Mrs. O’Hara. Contact the school office with any questions.

If so - we need you to help coordinate the Science Fair reviewers. Please contact the school office to discuss how you might use your gifts to assist with this year’s Science Fair.

Do you know someone who would like an extra 25 hours each month to make some extra money? We have a job share position that is about 12 ½ hours every other week. It is a great opportunity for a retiree or a high school (at least 16 years old)/college age student, or anyone in between! Please contact the school office for more information, or fill out an application on the RCS website.

If so - we need you to help with the food items at our School Carnival on Friday, May 3rd.  You can follow the template from past years or create a menu of your own. This is a wonderful opportunity for a group of families or friends! Please contact the school office for more information.

Our Ice Cream Social is fast approaching (January 31st). We need someone to order the ice cream, line up the scoopers and organize the event. There are great notes to follow. Please contact the school office if you can help.

We are supporting Christmas Anonymous this year by serving as a collection sight for canned food, snow boots, skates, books in good condition, games that have all the parts, toys that are usable, coats, snowpants and jackets (new and used), and Christmas wrapping paper. These items may be placed on the tables outside of the science lab through November 26th.

SYSTEM NEWS

When the weather affects school, RCS will send timely electronic communications to our parent community regarding late starts, early dismissals, and school closings. Communications will be sent via email, voice, and text messaging. As well, public postings will be made on local TV (KTTC, KAAL), radio stations ( KROC, Y105), RCS web page and social media sites.  Due to shared bus transportation - you may assume that RCS will be concurrent with all announcement made by Rochester Public Schools (ISD #535) regarding late starts, early dismissals and closings that pertain to weather conditions and student safety.

Sharing your personal story about Catholic education is the number one way that parents consider thinking about Catholic schools. If you know a family that will have a kindergartner next year, please share your experience and invite them to learn about our schools at our Kindergarten Discovery Night on Tuesday, November 13 at St. Francis of Assisi School!

To learn more visit rcsmn.org/kindergarten!

Every day young people continue to engage more and more with technology, RCS in collaboration with the Diocese of Winona-Rochester Safe Environment Program, is taking a proactive step to empower our students to become Upstanders in our community by offering a new app program called STOP!T.  Doing the right thing is only a click away.

STOP!T is an anonymous and reporting incident management program that features a simple and fast mobile app for students, allowing them to anonymously share messages, photos, videos or anything of concern with school officials – from cyberbullying to threats or self-harm. The STOP!T program ensures that all students who study, worship, and participate in our schools are doing so in a safe and secure environment. We believe our adoption of STOP!T is one of many important steps in our continued effort to provide a positive school climate and a safe learning environment.

STOP!T will also help us go beyond reacting to bullying and inappropriate behavior, and instead start deterring bullying, harassment and other harmful or inappropriate conduct.  STOP!T will be launching soon in your school making it a safer, stronger and more supportive and caring community!  Parent information will be shared by grade level prior to the launch. Click here to learn more about the STOP!T program.

The RCS Board of Trustees is pleased to invite you to consider serving as a Lay Member on the RCS governing Board of Trustees.  Inspired by the Sisters of St. Francis, the Board of Trustees embraces a legacy of quality Catholic education with a rich history steeped in a tradition of excellence and rooted in the Catholic faith.  Click on the article title to learn more about the Lay Member Role & Responsibilities and application process.  Applications accepted until November 30, 2018.
