Summer Letter 2018

Dear St. John the Evangelist/St. Pius X School Families,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Sending this information means that school is right around the corner. As we prepare to begin a new school year, we hope you find this information helpful. Your cooperation helps begin the school year in a very positive way.

Welcome Days - August 13, 14, 15 - 8:00 - 4:00

Please plan to stop in the school lobby on one of our Welcome Days - August 13, 14, or 15 between 8:00 am – 4:00 pm to pick up your family folder. We will have the folders available with information that you need to sign and must be returned on Meet the Teacher Day.

Meet the Teacher Day – Thursday, August 23rd - 4:00 - 6:00

Please make sure to bring your folders with all the signed information.

An office staff member will be available this evening to take medications for the students. No shots, no school: Please be sure that all immunizations are completed by the first day of school as we are following the state mandate regarding immunizations.

Used Uniform Sale

During Meet the Teacher Day (August 23rd), we are planning to have a used uniform sale. This is an opportunity for you to purchase a slightly used uniform at a reduced price.

1st Day of Classes - Grades 1-8 Classes for grades 1 -8 students begin on Monday, August 27th . The kindergarten students will be scheduled to attend a small group orientation session on either August 27th or August 28th. Kindergarten students will begin their full-day schedule on Wednesday, August 29th. Ms. Heydon will be sending home information in the near future about the scheduling of that week.

Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11th at both St. John and St. Pius during the school day. This is a non-uniform day for students. Order forms will be in the family folders. Picture retake day is on Monday, October 15th at St. Pius and Tuesday, October 16th at St. John during the school day.

Required VIRTUS Training - The Diocese of Winona requires ALL volunteers to complete VIRTUS training. If you have not completed this yet and would be volunteering in any aspect, you can sign up for a VIRTUS session here: https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_list2.cfm?theOrgID=18682&theme=0

Volunteer Opportunities – Many volunteers are needed to keep our school activities going. Teachers will request help for their classrooms and field trips, but there are many other opportunities to volunteer throughout the school year. Use this Google Form to sign up to help in the lunchrooms, libraries, and a variety of other activities:

Students in 8th grade will be going to Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center September 19th -21st . Medication forms and medications are due to the office no later than September 12th. Medication forms are available in the school office or check the website at www.rcsmn.org. Please do not use the medication forms found on the Eagle Bluff website. Additional Eagle Bluff information will be in your Welcome Day Folder.
