Weekly School Broadcast Principal's Message 3rd Grader Aubrey Restovich
This month started off in a fantastic way when we were able to celebrate Mass together on Monday, November 1st for All Saints Day. Fr. Russ shared a beautiful homily where he talked about the recipe for making saints: loving God, being kind to others, and showing mercy. Our Catholic faith teaches us that all souls in heaven are saints, not just those individuals who we recognize for their great faithfulness on Earth. This aligns with our St. Pius X School belief that we are all called to be saints in the making; we have a tradition where one student is recognized at the end of each week as our Saint in the Making after being nominated by a peer or adult in the building. Congratulations to 3rd grader Aubrey Restovich for being named our Saint this week! Our 2nd graders took this a step farther, writing down what they can individually do to practice being saints and placing these on their lockers. I am so impressed with their thoughtfulness and articulation of these actions.
School News St. Pius X is in year 6 of a 7 year accreditation cycle through MNSAA (Minnesota Non-Public School Accreditation Association) and we are undergoing a self study. Part of this process includes collecting stakeholder input about our school. Please take the time to fill out this survey, as it is for current parents of students in preschool through fifth grade. Click Here: https://forms.gle/4s2jpA5A67TAZZo8A Be on the lookout for a flyer in your child’s classroom folder about our “If you Give a Pig a Pancake” food shelf collection. We will collect pancake mix, syrup, and vegetable oil, along with peanut butter and jelly. Students can bring the items to the collection bins outside the 1st grade classroom starting Monday. First graders will be calculating how many pancakes the peanut butter and jelly will cover, and third graders will be calculating how many pancakes could be made with the mixes that are brought in. Fr. Mahon is able to celebrate Mass on Wednesday, November 10th at 8:35 AM, so now we will have that opportunity to worship together as well. Masks are required in the school building and in the church and at this time, we would like parents to sit in the pews at the back of the middle sections. Our next Purple & Gold School Spirit Day will be Friday, November 12th. The Diocese of Winona-Rochester will provide a prompt, appropriate and compassionate response to reporters of sexual abuse of a child by any diocesan agent (employees, volunteers, vendors, religious or clergy). Anyone wishing to make a report of an allegation of sexual abuse should call the Victim Assistance Coordinator at 507-454-2270, Extension 255. A caller will be asked to provide his or her name and telephone number. Individuals are also encouraged to take their reports directly to civil authorities. The Diocese of Winona-Rochester is committed to protecting children, young people and other vulnerable people in our schools, parishes and ministries. The diocesan policy is available on the diocesan web site at www.dowr.org under the Safe Environment Program. If you have any questions about the Diocese of Winona's implementation of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, please contact Mary Hamann, at 507-858-1244, or mhamann@dowr.org. Click here for an informational flyer for Byron/Lourdes Co-Op Youth Wrestling. Students in preschool - grade 6 qualify. Join the rec program or the competitive program today! In order to best utilize our staffing, our preschool morning care will start at 7 AM. If you need to drop off your child earlier than that, please let Mr. Jenson know and care will be provided on that day. Preschool parents, please use the following link to register for before and/or after school care for the coming weeks of 11/1-11/23: https://forms.gle/MChEoFgPyaHC3SFF9 We are collecting gently used winter coats, snow pants, hats & mittens/gloves. The items will be kept here at St. Pius X School for students who need to use them. We will be collecting items until Friday November 12th. Be sure to check your closets for winter items that no longer fit your kiddos and bring them to St. Pius X from now until Friday November 12th. There are two colorful totes to collect the items, one on each floor that your student can place the donated items or bring them to Mr. Jenson in the office. If your child is absent for two or fewer days of school, we do not preemptively send home their school work. If your child is ill, we believe that their time is best spent recuperating. If their absence is due to a family event, we believe that this time should be spent together with family. For absences due to illness lasting longer than two school days, please connect with your child’s teacher via email to communicate a plan to pick up your child’s school work. When calling or emailing the front office if your child will be absent for the day, please briefly describe the reason for the absence. We are required to document all student absences in order to be in compliance with the state; letting us know initially will save a followup communication from the school. With our first bell ringing at 8:15 AM this year, please kindly notify the front office by 9 AM if your child will be absent or arriving late to school. When picking up your child in the afternoon from After School Care, please call our Google Voice number at 507-218-7873. Mr. Amundson or the adult leader will let you know to pick up at Door 5 by the gym or outside by the playground.
