Weekly School Broadcast Principal's Message Kindergarten Field Trip
Pope John Paul II said, "Catholic education aims not only to communicate facts but also to transmit a coherent, comprehensive vision of life, in the conviction that the truths contained in that vision liberate students in the most profound meaning of human freedom." If we look at the components of this message, what strikes me is that Pope John Paul II is acknowledging that yes, a Catholic education does indeed communicate facts, but the greater benefit is helping students to form a vision of life and learning in an environment that allows students to reach their full potential in living their lives.
School News In order to best utilize our staffing, our preschool morning care will start at 7 AM. If you need to drop off your child earlier than that, please let Mr. Jenson know and care will be provided on that day. Preschool parents, please use the following link to register for before and/or after school care for the coming weeks of 10/18-10/29: https://forms.gle/yjXHHhm4CAVjDzGr5 On Monday, Mr. Jenson will be emailing the preschool parents a registration form for November 1st-November 12th to pre-register. We have our fall break next week, so there will be no school on Thursday or Friday. There will be no non-uniform days next week and there will not be a school broadcast. We also have a staff development day at the end of our first quarter of school on Friday, November 5th that is a no school day. On Friday, October 29th we will have a black & orange non-uniform day, with students being able to wear a Halloween costume in the afternoon. Continuing on with a St. Pius X School tradition, our younger students will have a short parade around the building at 2:30 and then will head outside to the blacktop parking lot for any parents who wish to see the parade. Parents may park in the north church parking lot across the street and stand in the connected church/school parking lot. Once the parade is finished, parents will then be able to take their child home after coming back into the building to get their backpacks and other belongings. Please look for additional information from your child(ren)’s teacher(s). In the case of inclement weather, the outdoor portion of the parade will be cancelled and pickup will be at normal time. This will be communicated via an Infinite Campus message via email and/or text. If your child is absent for two or fewer days of school, we do not preemptively send home their school work. If your child is ill, we believe that their time is best spent recuperating. If their absence is due to a family event, we believe that this time should be spent together with family. For absences due to illness lasting longer than two school days, please connect with your child’s teacher via email to communicate a plan to pick up your child’s school work. Starting next week, we would like to invite our parents to attend school Mass in person. We will have Wednesday school Mass at 8:45 AM on October 20th and 27th; to celebrate All Saints Day, we will have Mass on Monday, November 1st at 9 AM, with no Mass on Wednesday. There will be a prayer service in lieu of a Mass on Wednesday, November 10th at 8:45 AM. Masks are required in the school building and in the church and at this time, we would like parents to sit in the pews at the back of the middle sections. There will be a parent/guardian and student orientation and information night on Tuesday, October 26th from 6:30-7:30 in the John Adams Auditorium. This is open to 5th graders and older. RCS will have a bus that leaves from Lourdes; the first session is Friday, January 14th and there will be six total sessions. Please email Matt Gove at magove@rochesterschools.org for more information. When calling or emailing the front office if your child will be absent for the day, please briefly describe the reason for the absence. We are required to document all student absences in order to be in compliance with the state; letting us know initially will save a followup communication from the school. With our first bell ringing at 8:15 AM this year, please kindly notify the front office by 9 AM if your child will be absent or arriving late to school. When picking up your child in the afternoon from After School Care, please call our Google Voice number at 507-218-7873. Mr. Amundson or the adult leader will let you know to pick up at Door 5 by the gym or outside by the playground.
