Weekly School Broadcast Since Ash Wednesday, Lourdes High School has been participating in a fundraiser for Red Lake Indian Reservation. The annual fundraiser, begun by Theresa Eckel in 2014 as a system-wide event, has brought awareness to our community about the people of the Red Lake Reservation, and has taught us about the beauty of its people. This year, in response to our brothers and sisters in need, seniors Maggie Thom and Sarah Crowley have been leading the charge to raise funds for the people of the Reservation. When asked why she wanted to help lead this project, Sarah Crowley responded, "Throughout my RCS education, I have been taught to put my faith into action. Thus, it is important to continue the RCS tradition of supporting the Red Lake community because of the authentic way it allows us, as students, to live out our faith. By embracing generosity, we can actively affect positive change in the Red Lake community." Maggie Thom, co-leader remarked, "The Red Lake Fundraiser is important to me because growing up in the RCS community has taught me about the importance of giving back to those who are less fortunate. Our school has a unique connection to the reservation, as we both share in our Catholic identity." All three of these young ladies, as well as all of those who have contributed and participated over the years, model what it is to care about others, especially during our Lenten journey of almsgiving. Thank you to all who have contributed and held both of our communities in prayer.
If you would like to contribute to this fundraiser, checks can be made out to Lourdes High School and delivered to the front office by March 4th.
Blessings,
Ms. Mary Spring Lourdes High School Principal
Academics Please contact Ms. Spring if you are in need of transportation in the fall. We are looking to ascertain how many families need assistance with transportation for the fall. Students began meeting with their counselors to start the registration process for next year. If a student qualifies for a course with a prerequisite, a separate email indicating what courses the student is eligible for was sent to both the parent and student. The 2021-2022 course catalog can be found here. Completed registration sheets with parent signature are due by March 3rd for freshmen. If you are a parent of sophomore or junior and have not yet completed their registration card, it is okay if they turn them in by March 3rd. If you have any questions please contact your counselor. Wearing masks properly is imperative during the pandemic so it is important that masks should fit securely over the nose and mouth. Since we have had to wear masks for quite some time, the straps of masks can be stretched out so they no longer stay firmly over the nose when the wearer speaks or leans down. Please check whether your student needs a new mask; if there is a difficulty with obtaining a new mask, please contact us.

General Spring is around the corner! That means spring cleaning! Please consider donating any IRP (Independent Reading Books) that you no longer need to the LHS Media Center/Library. Check out the list of items in need here. As we see Minnesota and Olmsted County COVID-19 cases increase, we are asking families to please continue to follow the MDH Decision Tree when assessing their student’s health status. If you decide to keep your child home, please include the symptoms that your child is experiencing when you call the school or email lhsattendance@rcsmn.org. If your child has one of the more common symptoms (temp greater or equal to 100.4,new onset/worsening cough, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell) OR two less common symptoms (sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, muscle pain, excessive fatigue, new onset of severe headache, new onset of nasal congestion or runny nose) we are going to request that your child have a COVID-19 test before they return to school. We ask, even when your child isn't in school, that you communicate with the high school if your child has tested positive for Covid 19. As COVID continues and flu season begins, we all need to continue to be cautious and do what we can to protect fellow students and staff so we can safely stay open. The 2020-2021 yearbooks are now on sale. Click here to purchase your yearbook. The time has come to submit Senior photos! Please submit senior photos before March 22 to Mr. Sinn (risinn@rcsmn.org).
