School News Please join RCS on our Annual Day of Giving, Tuesday, November 17th. Mr. Jenson will be hosting a drive up donation table at the school entrance off of 12th Ave NW at Door 1 that day from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Please visit the RCS website (www.rcsmn.org) to donate online. Thank you in advance for your generous support of our children in the Rochester Catholic Schools. When dropping off students in the morning between 8:30-8:50 AM, please be aware of the buses and allow them to pull up to the curb to unload. If no buses are present, please pull forward toward the middle of the parking lot to allow more students to exit their vehicles in a timely manner. If your child is in Kindergarten or first grade and is a little slower exiting the vehicle, please drop off on 12th St NW. For those children who are able to exit their vehicles easily, please continue to use 13th Ave NW along the parking lot. Our next Spirit Day will be a Purple & Gold School Spirit day on Friday, November 20th. After meeting together, the RCS Leadership Team, in conjunction with Bishop John M. Quinn of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester and with guidance from Olmsted County Public Health, has decided to have building specific plans for instruction. St. Pius X will remain in-person while Covid-19 positive cases remain low or at zero in our building. If you have other children at home from other schools in quarantine and wish for your student at St. Pius X to remain home during that time, please contact Mr. Jenson at djenson@rcsmn.org or 507-282-5161 to work out any details regarding instruction. Please see the communication from the RCS Leadership Team for more information. The USDA recently received approval from Congress to extend a meal waiver program through the end of this school year (or until funding is exhausted) that will allow all students at St. Pius X School to receive one meal for breakfast and one meal for lunch, free of charge. Breakfast will be provided in the classroom in place of a morning snack. Lunch service will not change, except there will be no charge for a complete lunch. Students are required to take all components of a meal (fruit, veggies, milk, etc.) in order to qualify for the free meal. Please note that students are not permitted to receive more than one meal for breakfast, and one meal for lunch, per these guidelines. If a second entree is desired, that will be charged as an a la carte item for $1.25. A single milk without a lunch can be purchased for $.50. We hope this meal waiver program will be a benefit to all our families who may still be experiencing financial impacts from the effects of the pandemic. There is no school Wednesday, November 25th - Friday, November 27th for Thanksgiving break.
