A Message From the Principal
School News Today we were notified by the bus company that transportation will be made available to all eligible bus riders 4 mornings per week, starting October 5th. The buses should run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. There is still no busing on Wednesdays, and no afternoon busing. We have had several people ask for Stay at Home Learning options due to appointments or short absences. At this time, the Stay at Home Learning option is available to those who have selected it for the first quarter, are out of school due to a COVID related issue, or potentially, to those who know in advance of a longer absence. In the case of appointments and missed school due to short illnesses, we will continue to follow our homework/make-up work as outlined in our Family/Student Handbook. We ask that all individuals on our school grounds please wear masks as an added safety precaution. This, along with social distancing increases the mitigation efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please note that with our move to the gym this year, we lost the ability to control the interior entrance. When arriving to pick up your child, please ring the doorbell located to the right of the first lobby doors. That rings directly into the gym and alerts us to the fact that you are here. After ringing the doorbell, come into the first lobby. We will escort your child to you there. Please let us know if you have questions or concerns. Will be held virtually October 6th, 7th and 8th. Here is a link to the document that includes the website and the codes needed to register for conference times. Mrs. Newkirk will send an additional link for your specific Zoom or Google Meet virtual conference. Please take time to schedule this important conversation. Will be virtually held on October 6th and 8th. These conversations about your child’s progress and acclimation to the start of school are important to ensure we are working together to further your child’s learning. Here is a link to the document that includes the website and the codes needed to register for conference times. We ask that you sign up for a time that is most convenient for you. Teachers will follow-up the week of October 4th with links for your specific Zoom or Google Meet virtual conference. The Home and School Association is continuing our fall Fun Run tradition with a virtual event to be held on or about October 10th. There are different ways for your family to participate this year - a 5 K or 1 mile hike/run with your family pet or stuffed animal or a service project under one(or all four) of the following categories - service, excellence, leadership, faith. All events require registration (to be eligible for door prizes), the opportunity to make a free will offering and ask for you to submit pictures which will be used for a special project. Even though we cannot hold this event in person, we can build community, raise a little money for the annual HSA budget, and keep the ‘placeholder’ for the 7th Annual Fun Run 2021! See the flyer/registration form here, and return it before October 10th. October is Respect for Life month. We will be participating in the Baby Bottle Campaign for Catholic Charities. Students will be able to pick up a baby bottle, fill it with coins, bills or checks and return it to school. This money goes to support the work of Catholic Charities to provide resources that help moms, babies and adoption. Bottles will be available in the school lobby beginning October 5th and all donations are due by October 30th. Thank you in advance for your generous support. Congratulations to the following students, newly elected to the Student Council: We really do! But - we ask that you refrain from bringing them on the parking lot at arrival or dismissal time. With the number of cars, kids and people, even the best behaved pets can act unpredictably. Please keep pets in the car. Thank you! Our Rochester Catholic parishes along with the amazing staff at RCS are so excited to walk with parents as your child prepares for the sacraments of First Confession and First Eucharist. Don’t miss out on important communication, details, materials, and deadlines – make sure that you sign your child up for the sacraments at your home parish. Please click here for program details for your parish. Not registered at a parish yet? We can help with that too!

We would like to provide an update on the status of RCS Traveling Youth basketball. As of this current time, with the lack of gym availability and restrictions related to COVID-19, we are going to hold off on starting traveling basketball. We will continue monitor the situation and will let people know if and when we are able to move forward. We will continue to have open communication with all involved to make an informed decision regarding the traveling season. We do not have a time-frame as to when this decision will be made. This is a fluid situation. If we decide to move forward with a season, we can have registration up and going quite quickly. Our number one priority is the safety of all involved, along with keeping our schools open. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate through these new and challenging times.
