WEEKLY BROADCAST FEATURED NEWS 2020-06-04 A Message from the Principal The 2019-2020 school year is one for the history books! Other than a few last minute cleaning and record keeping details, a staff meeting and celebration of folks not returning - we made it! It seems so surreal and I have to remind myself that three quarters of the year were 'normal'! It is those days that we long to return to...children in the building, interactions with parents, school celebrations, Masses, concerts, etc. I am pretty sure life will not ever be the 'same' again….and maybe that is okay. This past week, it has become even more apparent that our world has some healing to do. Now, more than ever, we need to help our children look into the eyes of people around them and see Christ. We need to work harder to be Christ for others and treat everyone with dignity and respect. We need to pray more, love more and be kind more! On Sunday I attended a virtual Mass celebrated by Father Mike Schmitz. His message to us on Pentecost was that we cannot turn away from our Baptism, our confirmation...we have been marked by the sign of faith and are loved by God. Because of that, we need to be light in the world and light for the world. Each one of us has to use the gifts of the Spirit we have been given to bring about God's kingdom here on earth. It sounds like a daunting task - but starts with one small act of kindness. This week there have been many thank you cards, pictures and notes dropped off at school for the staff. This small act brought smiles (and tears)! It inspired me to write some notes of my own, to people who have had an impact on my life and continue to inspire me. We may have to look harder to see those small acts of kindness around us - but they are there, and should be inspiration for each of us. As we are apart this summer, our prayer for you is for safety, love and kindness to fill your lives until we see you again in the fall. We are in the interview and hiring process to replace individuals who are retiring or not returning next year. We ask you to keep this process in your prayers and ask the Holy Spirit to guide the process. Thank you - for the gift of your children, for your support and dedication, for your faith and trust. We have appreciated the opportunity to journey in faith together and look forward to the 2020-2021 school year!
Respectfully, .
SCHOOL NEWS And still have items that belong to the school? The vestibule is open M-F from 7:00 am-2:30 pm. Please make sure items are labeled with your child’s name and grade. We will be conducting inventories and sending email notices to families with items not returned. Thank you to everyone who was able to turn in items this week. Click HERE to find a list of Guided Reading books that are missing. Our books have a sticker with a letter on the back. Are being mailed next week. An explanation is being attached to report cards explaining the use of NA on cards. Kindergarten has deviated from their traditional report card detail and are offering a more narrative assessment beyond a Religion, Reading, Math, PE/Music grade. Please contact the teacher or Building Principal with questions. Are available for viewing on the SMART website. The Seeds of Faith Scholarships have not yet been determined or applied. If you have questions or concerns about your statement or your ability to pay, please contact the building principal or the RCS Business Office jbarnick@rcsmn.org for assistance. The summer reading requirements for students going into grades 6,7,8 & 9 (at Lourdes), have been shared with the students. They are also available by clicking HERE and are posted on the RCS website as well. Don’t delay...stay reading!
SYSTEM NEWS As we wrap up the 2019-2020 school year, Rochester Catholic Schools (RCS) is reminding families to get your children up-to-date on required shots before the 2020-2021 school year begins. Pursuant to Minnesota law, RCS requires written proof of scheduled shots for all students in preschool-12 before the first day of school. This policy is also known as “No Shots, No School.” If your child has a medical reason, or if his or her parents are conscientiously opposed to any of the scheduled shots, a legal exemption is available. This legal exemption would also need to be received prior to the the first day of school. Additional information can be found on the Minnesota Department of Health’s website. The Minnesota Required Childhood Immunization Schedule can also be found on MDH’s website. If you are not sure if your child is up-to-date on his or her immunizations, please check with your health care provider. The end of the school year brings staffing changes at every school. We'd like to thank all of those employees who are departing RCS for their contributions to the system and commitment to our students. In addition, we'd like to give special recognition to eight individuals who are retiring after many years of dedicated service to Catholic education. Thank you for your patience as we work through all the restrictions and guidelines to provide safe and productive summer camps. At this time, we are anticipating a July 6th start for summer camps. We are currently working with our coaches to determine how each camp will look and when they will take place. It is our hope to have this information by June 19th to communicate with all our families and open for registration. Please know the health and safety for all is our top priority. UPCOMING EVENTS
