WEEKLY BROADCAST FEATURED NEWS We are in week two of the Advent Season. Thanks to Mrs. Weick's kindergartners for helping prepare us for the coming of Jesus.
SCHOOL NEWS This time of patient waiting has been a blessing to our school and parish community. As we have waited to celebrate the birthday of Jesus, and wait in joyful anticipation of His second coming, we have spent time praying, reflecting and sharing. We are called to share our gifts with others and participated in Operation One More. The students could see the result of their generosity. We are awaiting word of how many families we were able to help this season. Our Student Council led our Missionary Childhood Association collection that will result in a check to the Diocese of Winona-Rochester to be added to their support of this worthwhile charity. Advent Angels, book sharing, kind deeds for others all help us prepare. December 20th will be a non-uniform day. Students and Staff are encouraged to come dressed in red, green, Christmas themed clothing (yes, ugly Christmas sweaters count!). Please do not go out and purchase new items! Red uniform shirts with jeans can work! Our Advent Prayer Service will be prayed on Monday, December 16th at 2:15 pm. The weekly all school Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17th at 9:15 am. Our Monthly HERO assembly will be held on Tuesday, December 17th at 1:20 pm (Virtue of Fidelity: grade 4). We will celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday, December 19th at 1:30 pm. Please join us as you are able. We are spelling down to find the students who will represent St. Francis of Assisi School at the RCS Spelling Bee to be held January 13th at 6:30 pm in the Lourdes Forum. Our fifth-eighth grade classrooms have had their ‘spell downs” and we are preparing for our school bee on Wednesday, December 18th at 1:30 pm. The following students are practicing and getting ready: We are continuing to work towards raising $25,000 by the end of the school year to fund professional development, alumni relations, Hispanic ministry and marketing initiatives. If we can raise $25,000, the Schulze Family Foundation will match it with $25,000. To date $15,625 has been raised. Donations can be made through the RCS website or directly to the school. Please contact the school office with questions. THANK YOU! The food has all been sorted and counted and we are blown away with the generosity and support from the St. Francis of Assisi school families. You collected nearly 1000 items! Delivery Day is this Saturday, December 14th at The Church of the Resurrection. If you and your family would like the opportunity to help, please come ANYTIME after 9am, whenever your schedule allows. We are there until all of the food has been delivered to the registered families (usually until around noon). If possible, it is best to have 2 adults/car for deliveries. The Christmas Concert will be performed on Tuesday, December 17th at 6:30 pm at the Church of the Resurrection. Please click here for more details from Ms. Judge! Teens - Join us for our next Unite evening on December 14th at Pax Christi Church 6:15pm-8:45pm (Mass is before at 5:15pm). This year's theme is QUESTION EVERYTHING. We'll be exploring the tough questions about God's existence, organized religion, why suffering exists and more! Our December guest speaker, Ethan Heinzen - a local catechist and past Camp Summit emcee, will explore whether or not organized religion is necessary. For more information and to RSVP visit uniterochestermn.org. Unite evenings include dinner, social time, speakers, small group discussion, music and meaningful prayer. There is no cost to attend these evenings, but RSVPs are appreciated to help us plan for food. Unite Ministries is an joint initiative of the Rochester Catholic parishes’ youth ministries. Visit our website for other upcoming events, trips, and prayer opportunities. Mark your calendars for the rest of the QUESTION EVERYTHING series:
