WEEKLY BROADCAST FEATURED NEWS Our sixth grade students honored America's veterans this week by writing cards to area veterans, engaging in a discussion about freedom, and touring the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial. Our appreciation to Veteran Harry Kerr and the Elks Lodge for supporting their trip and trolley ride.
SCHOOL NEWS On Friday, November 8th, teachers at RCS spent focused time on Missionary Discipleship (Accompany), Cultural Competency Training, an hour in a focused licensure area and then experienced an “Un-Conference”. This is a professional development technique by where the participants spend 5 minutes identifying a challenge or concern, and the remaining 50 minutes collectively coming up with possible solutions/interventions that can address the challenge. Learning from colleagues in a less formal way was a positive experience for all! Each year the Home and School Association (HSA) serves a delicious Christmas luncheon for the Faculty and Staff. We are in need for some additional help in providing this meal. Can you make a crock pot of soup? Donate a dessert or bread? Provide beverages? Please contact the Home and School Association (HSA) at stfhsa@rcsmn.org if you can help. Report cards will be available for viewing on Infinite Campus for grades 4-8 on Friday, November 15th. Reports will be sent home with students in kindergarten through grade three. The St. Francis HSA and School Administration traditionally organize a Christmas Gift Cash Fund for St. Francis of Assisi School Faculty and Staff. If you choose to participate, your monetary contribution will be pooled with the contributions of other families. The total collected is then divided and dispersed to ALL staff (percentage of disbursement based on full- or part-time status). The intent of this program is to allow one gift to recognize the work of the multiple individuals who interact with your student on a daily basis (teachers, specialized staff [e.g., library, gym, foreign language, music, etc.], paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, maintenance, and administrative support). Donations are due no later than December 13th. Please feel free to contact the HSA at stfhsa@rcsmn.org with any questions. Please click here for a flyer with more details and directions. It’s time to start thinking about a Science Fair Project! Thank you to Mrs. Taunton for coming in to share Science Fair Fun information with students in grades K-6. Information is coming home November 15th regarding the Science Fair. One instructional packet will come home per family with students in grades K-6 and each student in grades K-6 will get an Entry Form. Entry Forms will be due back no later than December 6th. Students in grades 7-8 will have information shared with them by Mrs. O’Hara. Those junior high students interested in participating in the Science Fair should see Mrs. O’Hara for an Entry Form. We are always in need of volunteers for this event. If you are interested and can help please return the sign-up form. The Student Council representatives visited classrooms this week to talk about our partnering with the Church of the Resurrection. We are joining with the backpack program for “Operation One More” - providing a box of food for Christmas to families in need in our community. We continue to collect new and gently used games, toys, puzzles and winter outerwear for Christmas Anonymous. There are tables outside of the Science Lab for this collection.
