WEEKLY BROADCAST FEATURED NEWS Kindergarten through 5th grade students finished the NWEA standardized testing this week.
The NWEA MAP (Northwest Evaluation Association Measure of Academic Progress) is the standardized test taken up to 3 times per year for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Depending upon grade level, students may take the reading, language arts, math and science tests in the fall, winter and/or spring.
These untimed computerized tests provide information to determine academic growth and proficiency. This data along with formative and summative assessments from the classroom assist in guiding instruction for individual students and classes.
SCHOOL NEWS Leticia Flores Garcia will join the Holy Spirit Early Childhood Team on Monday, October 7th. Leticia will be supervising early drop-off on Monday and Friday mornings, assisting Mrs. Stiennon each morning, and supervising lunch in Mrs. Hagen's room each day as well. Ms. Flores Garcia has a wealth of experience working in the Headstart program, Girl Scouts, and St. Francis of Assisi Parish. We welcome Ms. Flores Garcia and wish her the best in her new position at Holy Spirit. Leticia replaces Linda Williamson who left the position at the end of September to pursue opportunities to work with individual families in providing care for children. We thank Mrs. Williamson for loving our students and for so earnestly taking responsibility for all the well-being of all children at Holy Spirit. The Green Team is again asking that you donate your leaves. We use the leaves to retain moisture in the soil, suppress weed growth and enrich the soil. Please place bags of leaves in the Spirit Garden on the west end of the garden, closest to the paved turn- around area. No weeds, sticks or garden waste, please. Thank you for your help. The Green Team is planning a Fall Outdoor Clean-Up Day at Holy Spirit on Saturday, October 5th, from 9:00am-11:00am. We would appreciate your help-no experience necessary! Please feel free to join us for one hour or two hours-whatever works into your schedule. Bring your pruning shears, knee pads, shovel, etc. If you don’t have gardening tools, we will have extra. If you have questions, call Pat at 507-398-5640 Please open the attachment for the instructions on how to schedule your parent teacher conference! Conferences are next week! A few quick reminders about dismissal at Holy Spirit. Preschool students can be picked up at the church entrance after school. K-1-2 students get dismissed at 3:30. 3-4-5 students get dismissed at 3:35. The first two lines of cars (closest to the school) are reserved for families who have children no older than 2nd grade at Holy Spirit. The next two lines of cars (closest to the red flags & 50th avenue) are reserved for families who have children in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade or who are arriving a bit later. Parents, please stay in your cars while in the carline. Getting out of your car and walking between cars and through lines of cars is unsafe- especially if children are trying to navigate this. If teachers dismiss on time, if families get in the correct lines based on grade level of their children, everything will run safely and efficiently. This process took years to develop with the help of law enforcement and safety personnel. Why do we do this? It's all about safety. We allow our younger students out earlier so that it is less hectic for them to find their ride home and to ease congestion. If you have a fourth grader and you are in one of the first two lines of the carline- every car behind you and to the left of you will have to wait until your child is dismissed- a good 5 minutes later than children in K-1-2. Thank you for your patience and for trusting the process! You are invited to check out Holy Spirit on social media. We have a closed group on Facebook: Parents and Staff of Holy Spirit School. Ask to become a member, answer a question, and you will gain access to photos, class events, and reminders of upcoming activities. We are also on Twitter @holyspiritprinc . Teachers and staff are working hard to design pages and we invite parents to join us in this effort. All design work is done online and can be done from anywhere! Pictures are already loaded on the yearbook website and easy to access.
