October 1, 2019
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
We have had a great start to the school year! Students have been fantastic and there has been much to be celebrated. Earlier this month, during convocation, we highlighted the achievements and accomplishments of our spring sports teams ending with our band playing our "fight" song!
We also had a great Homecoming Week filled with activities which culminated with the semi-formal dance on Saturday evening. Thursday, we celebrated Mass outdoors. Students brought blankets and sat on the lawn. Fr. Will Thompson presided. It was a gorgeous day and doing this sent a message that we can worship anywhere……God will be present with us!
As the temperatures are beginning to dip, girls may wear plain gray or black tights--- no decorations.
As we look ahead to October, here are some important dates:
Thursday, October 3 - Sophomore Retreat (mandatory) - Girls will be at Assisi Heights and boys will be at Resurrection - please complete permission form and submit as soon as possible.
Wednesday, October 16 - Testing day for Grades 9-11 (National tests - there are no make-ups)
Seniors (mandatory) - Senior Retreat at Camp Victory
Thursday, Oct. 17 and Fri., Oct. 18 - Minnesota Education Association conference - no school
Tuesday, October 29 - LHS Choir/Center Street Concert - 7:00 p.m. - auditorium
Please check the Activities/Athletic calendar here for the upcoming October events.
Finally, on Wednesday, September 18, our building was struck by lightning. We did not lose power so we
initially thought all was well. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Our door to the athletic wing lost its
power, 1/3 of the heating and cooling system was knocked out, the top of the building in the rear of the
athletic wing was hit resulting in a large hole and falling bricks that damaged the flat roof, a couple of cameras were destroyed and we suspect parking lights were hit the week before in a previous lightning storm. The good news is the heating and cooling center is back up and running, the athletic wing entrance door is fixed, the lights for the parking lot have been replaced and the hole in the roof has been temporarily covered with a rubber material. Click here to view photos of the damage.
We look forward to this 2019-2020 school year with excitement and hope!
Sincerely,
Dr. Juliano
