WEEKLY BROADCAST FEATURED NEWS 2019-09-27
A Message from the Principal
We have completed all of our Parent Information Nights, Chromebook Night and Bring Your Parents to Preschool Nights. Thank you to all who attended! We so appreciate these opportunities to meet with parents to share our hopes and dreams for your children! We trust you got a sense of classroom rules and routines and that by meeting your child's teachers, you feel more comfortable with our partnership! This week our Junior High students shared with us the October virtue of Studiousness. They offered some practical suggestions of what studiousness looks like in the everyday life of a St. Francis of Assisi student. We will all be working on that this month! Their Eagle Bluff trip was hampered a bit by the weather, but the students and staff have been sharing many positive outcomes of this experience. Next week we wrap up our fall NWEA tests. We appreciate your help in avoiding appointments during the testing schedule. We will use the results to set classroom and individual goals for learning. Just a reminder that this test measures growth over time. It is one piece of data we look at to make curricular and instructional decisions.
It is with deep gratitude that we end the month of September and look towards October - Feast day, Fun Run, conferences, Grandparent's Day and more. Thank you for a great start to the 2019-2020 school year.
Sincerely,
SCHOOL NEWS As was shared during Parent Nights, communication is key to your child’s success. We know that sometimes after-school plans change and you need to get a message to your child. PLEASE email (stfattendance@rcsmn.org) or call the office (507-288-4816) and we will get the message to your child. Teachers have different prep periods and may not get a chance to check email before dismissal. Going through the office will assure that your child gets the message. Thank you for your help with this. We really do! But - we ask that you refrain from bringing them on the parking lot at arrival or dismissal time. With the number of cars, kids and people, even the best behaved pets can act unpredictably. Please keep pets in the car. Thank you! Fall conferences are right around the corner. Please mark your calendars for October 8th and October 10th. We will again be using an online tool for you to schedule your conferences. Click here for a link for instructions to sign up. Using the code for the teacher(s) you want to see, you can go directly to their schedule and sign up for a time that works for you! Please note: Junior High parents may sign up to meet with your child's homeroom teacher or any of the junior high teachers. This tool allows you to do that. If their schedules fill up please contact the teacher to schedule another time/day to meet. We hope for 100% participation. This conference is essential to a successful school year! You have a short time to sign up for conferences so please don't wait! Please let us know if you have questions or concerns. On Wednesday, we held Student Council elections. We started with campaign speeches in the gym, a review of the applications and reading campaign posters. We’d like to congratulate all of the students who campaigned for a spot on the council. Here are the results: Please register for the annual 5K and Fun Run to be held on Saturday, October 12th at Church of the Resurrection. You may register the day of the race, but need to register no later than today (September 27th) for a t-shirt! Click here to register today! All students must complete a bus safety course annually in order to use buses for field trips. This bus safety training will take place on Monday, September 30th. We are grateful to the bus drivers who transport our students safely! Catholic Charities’ Pregnancy, Parenting, and Adoption Program provides assistance to pregnant women and women with babies through the Mother and Child Assistance Fund. Consider supporting their mission by taking a baby bottle home during the month of October - Respect for Life month - and filling it with your spare change or financial contribution. Donations go directly to assisting women across Southern Minnesota who are choosing life for their babies. Catholic Charities assists more than 150 women of all faiths every year. Bottles will be available for pick-up beginning October 7th. Bottles and donations can be returned anytime before November 1st. Three students from the St. Francis Chess Club participated in the Gopher Open on Saturday September 21st. Attending were: Ari Jones, Stefan Jones and Thomas Markland. Stefan Jones finished in first place in the U400 category. Thomas Markland finished in a tie for first place in the U600 category. All players earned points. Congratulations!
