Prayers and Support for Ukraine

Prayers and Support for Ukraine

All five campuses across the Rochester Catholic Schools system recently raised a total of almost $7,700 for the people of Ukraine, and our school community continues to pray for peace to be restored to this country.

“Service to others is an important piece of who we are as children of God,” said Amy Heimer, Principal of Holy Spirit Catholic School. “Our students and staff observe the crisis in Ukraine and want to help.”

Prayers for Ukraine have been part of morning announcements, classes, and Mass at all five campuses. At Lourdes High School convocation, Religion Teacher Robert Gardner also spoke to students about the importance of taking care of those around us who are suffering.

For the fundraiser, students and staff donated money to participate in a non-uniform day where they dressed in blue and yellow - the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The total funds collected, which also included matches from generous donors in our community, were donated to Catholic Relief Services to provide assistance including food, clothing, and shelter for Ukrainian families.

“I am so proud of the way our students have been able to live out their faith through these actions of supporting people in need around the world,” said Dave Jenson, Principal at St. Pius X School.
