  • RCS Students Raise More than $30,000 in Food Donations for the Red Lake Indian Reservation

As an outward sign of our faith and our mission we are called to “action” in recognizing and responding to the basic needs of our brothers and sisters in our community, and in the world.

For the second year, Lourdes High School seniors, Claire Creedon and Theresa Eckel coordinated this year's Lenten service project. From March 7-18, Lourdes High School and St. John the Evangelist/St. Pius X School donated approximately $15,000 in food and dry goods. Furthermore, during the month of March the Minnesota Food Share Program matches all donations bringing in a total amount of $30,000 in donations to be given to the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

"Last year, the pastor of St. Mary’s Mission School on Red Lake, Fr. Jerry Rogers, shared Mass with the Lourdes community. As he described the hardships of daily life on the reservation, we knew that Red Lake Food Drive could not be a one-time effort. It is our goal to develop a long-lasting relationship between the Rochester Catholic Schools and the Red Lake Indian Reservation communities for years to come, forming a relationship based on shared service, love, and faith," said Eckel.

The Rochester Catholic Schools community has truly changed lives. It's so amazing to see our students at work for others!
